1. What I’m listening to
The End of Accounting – Financial Reporting in the Dock. Ever considered how useful accounting and financial reports are? Fascinating interview with Professor Baruch Lev here on the Accounting Influencers podcast. Hear him rip into the uselessness of what accountants hold dear. Listen here or on your podcast app.
2. What made me think
What makes you lie? According to UK newspaper The Telegraph, the less satisfied you are at work, the more likely you are to lie to others at the office. A survey of over 1,000 professionals found that 41% of those who are ‘not at all satisfied’ with their work tell at least one white lie a week. This is over twice as many as those who are ‘extremely satisfied’ (17%). The most common lies buy you time away from colleagues, such as ‘I’m not feeling well’ and ‘I already have plans after work.’ How happy are you at work and how’s your conscience?

4. What made me smile
» Research has shown that laughing for two minutes is just as healthy as a 20 minute jog. So now I’m sitting in the park laughing at all the joggers.
» If you think your boss is stupid, remember: you wouldn’t have a job if s/he was any smarter. John Gotti
» The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one. Oscar Wilde
5. Quote I’m chewing on
“It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop.”
In today’s fast paced world, there is much to be said for the person who just keeps going. Speed stuns sometimes, but often it’s just staying in the game and being persistent that gets the results.
